Synopsis: Lana Turner in the freaked out world of LSD. No I'm serious.

My Review: It's a surprise to me that this film isn't more regarded today as a camp classic. Lana, dear Lana, what WERE you thinking? The Big Cube is so insane and over the top that you'll need to take a hit of acid just to watch it. Lana stars as Adriana Roman, a stage actress and step mother whose husband dies and leaves her his entire fortune. When his daughter Lisa gets wind of this, all hell breaks lose and come hell or high water she is going to get Daddy's money. But how? Enter George Chakiris of West Side Story fame as Lisa's boyfriend Johnny. He and Lisa come up with the idea that perhaps Lisa will be able to get the funds if they can somehow declare Adriana legally insane or incompetent. This can of course be accomplished by dropping LSD tablets into her sleeping pills and by the time Adriana catches on to what the two are doing it is almost too late.

This is the kind of film that you will need to watch with both a sense of humor and an open mind. Naked asses (this film bears the dubious distinction of being the only Lana Turner film with any kind of sex or nudity), bikers riding their motorcycles into the swimming pool, actors falling off of stages and out of camera rage, Lana in short skirts and white knee-length boots having a "Trip" and George Chakiris stoned silly and babbling to an ant are just a few of the delights worth waiting for. You haven't seen anything until you have seen Lana Turner, Movie Queen, put her hand on her forehead, sigh and make like she is stoned. One critic of the day remarked that The Big Cube was sort of like "Peyton Place with generous doses of LSD" . Perhaps.
